Performer (Music or Movement Based)
Trigger is seeking a Performer (Musician or Movement based) for Treekin, a two-hander puppetry performance for young audiences.
Trigger is seeking a Performer (Musician or Movement based) for Treekin. Following the success of our two-hander touring show Teabreak, which explored the history of tea through colonial histories, this new work continues our commitment to exploring important issues from fresh perspectives, this time through trees, roots, and the natural world.
Treekin is a two-hander performed by this performer alongside Hannah Goudie-Hunter. The show uses puppetry and live music to invite children (aged 5–11) to create their own small puppet creature, encouraging imagination, participation, and connection to the natural world.
This role is all about developing and exploring the show through music and movement. It could suit a dancer who is curious about sound or a musician who is curious and open to movement. We are particularly interested in global majority performers who bring a generous devising spirit and a relationship to global or traditional music practices. This might include (but is not limited to) instruments such as tabla, kalimba, djembe, kora, marimba, sitar, or other roots and world music traditions. We are excited by artists who can blend musicality and movement with storytelling, improvisation, and play.
The role will involve rehearsing the work with the Creative Director, Puppetry Director and Performer over two weeks in rural North Somerset (with lifts available from Bristol, approximately a 30-minute drive; Southwest–based artists are preferred). During this period, we will share work-in-progress performances at Yeovil Arts Centre and We The Curious.
A further 3-day rehearsal period will take place in Spring 2027, followed by a summer 2027 tour to outdoor festivals across the UK. This engagement will be subject to an additional fee.
We are looking for a playful, collaborative, and contemporary performer who is confident working with children and families. Experience with family audiences is a plus. We warmly welcome applications from artists of all backgrounds, particularly those from the Global Majority and female-identifying performers, who are currently underrepresented in the cast and wider sector. Casting decisions will be based on the selection criteria, suitability, and skills outlined in the brief.
The role reports to the Creative Director. Applicants should have good availability for weekday and weekend touring during summer 2027. Touring would be subject to additional fees.
