Open Call for Main Entrance Sculpture Commission for Panattoni Park, Swindon

A public artwork is to be commissioned for a significant new development, Panattoni Swindon. Panattoni is the world’s largest privately owned industrial developer, with 59 offices worldwide. This is Panattoni’s flagship development in the UK, and will achieve net zero carbon in construction and BREEAM Excellent. The Panattoni Swindon site will span 360 acres, redeveloping a previous industrial site comprising the former Honda motor car manufacturing plant.
The new site will deliver best-in-class logistics, industrial and data real estate, providing a significant new hub in the South West with connections to the capital. The project will see enhanced green infrastructure to include a watercourse, wildlife corridors, park areas and a 10% net gains in biodiversity. The park at the rear of the site will be accessible to local communities, retaining existing woodland.
There will be two separate opportunities for public art at the site (please see other listing on VASW). Two different artists will be appointed
Main Entrance Sculpture:
A large scale sculpture in the centre of a roundabout at the main entrance to the site. This commission will celebrate the history of the site as a former airfield and its industrial heritage.
Eligibility:
This will be a highly technical artwork to produce and install. It is therefore suited to a Mid-Career artist who has relevant past experience and understands managing a commission of this scale. Artists nationwide are invited to apply.
Budget:
The artwork budgets include: Artist Fee, Production Budget & Installation.
Applicants are required to provide a detailed budget breakdown (incl. estimated production costs) in their Initial Proposal – see p.7 for the Application Process.
