The National Trust are seeking a visual artist, designer, sculptor, or artistic collective to create the 'Room of Discovery', a new sensory, accessible experience where visitors can enter and feel immersed in an engaging and imaginative space, piloting in Autumn 2023, and opening as part of the permanent visitor journey in Spring 2024.
The commission is to create a space which will evoke the sense of scale, colour and materials, the atmosphere and creative spirit of the Georgian Shell Gallery and Grotto Staircase, drawing on the wonder and unique beauty of these fragile and inaccessible spaces.
This project is part of a wider suite of new interventions that will refresh A la Ronde, with new visitor experiences for the future.
The 'Room of Discovery' will be a means to engage with the Shell Gallery and Grotto Staircase without physically being there, this new space will be designed to be tactile and examined up close.
