We are looking for an Artist/Illustrator to create a mural in The Old Chapel at Godolphin Cross

Godolphin Cross is a rural village with zero facilities, after two decades of de-servicing and the loss of shops, pub, churches and associated facilities. Over the past 10 years, we have formed a charity to secure the village’s Old Chapel and transform it into the hub of our community.

Since 2020 we have been building a programme of events, celebrations and arts/heritage projects that involve all of the community, of different ages, whilst also delivering high quality outcomes for the community. We are currently in the final stage of renovations and are looking to commission a mural for the building.

About the Old Chapel and its users:
The Old Chapel is used on a regular basis by youth groups (7 - 16 year olds), Reach Out group (60 - 90+), The WI as well as for live music and theatre, community feasts and exhibitions.

We want the mural to feel engaging and relevant to this breadth of audience.

Brief for mural:
The mural will be in the entrance hall of The Old Chapel.

The available space for the mural is 4m x 2.17m

We want it to reference the elements that make Godolphin Cross such a special place. Local themes include:
Mining history
Rural Landscape
Flora and Fauna
Village buildings and local architecture

The mural should be welcoming, fun and if referencing historical industry or specific features in the local landscape accurate as well. We have local specialists who can act as touchstones to support your research.

The budget is £1500 including materials.

We envisage this breaking down as 7 days work at £200/day: 2 days research, 2 day preliminary drawings, 3 days final installation. With £100 for materials. But how you chose to break it down is up to you.
