Making Space are thrilled to have been awarded a Culture Recovery Grant, which will enable us to pilot ‘Making A Start’ – a Maker Progression initiative to provide careers guidance, mentoring and business planning for those leaving or having recently left education and looking to work in the Crafts sector.

If you are considering how to turn a hobby into a business, or wondering if it is indeed possible to take a step to a career in craft we would love to hear from you. We are creating a vibrant and inspiring community of mentors, including consultants in marketing, fundraising, career guidance advisors, business and professional makers, to support your progression.

Over five 45min video sessions, we will help you to clarify your goals, negotiate your obstacles and help you to plan a route that supports your needs, aspirations and takes into account your personal circumstances. This project is aimed to facilitate careers in craft for all, regardless of background through effective bespoke mentoring.

We are seeking 20 makers aged 16+ to take part in the project. Each will receive an initial panel consultation with members of the Making Space team following which we will create a plan and match participants with mentors for sessions to provide support, guidance or specific training.

Whether jeweller, potter, fashion designer, illustrator or multi disciplinary artists creating something brilliant and indescribable in your school’s art department, we are keen to help you Make A Start.

There is a tight turn around for the pilot, so we are keeping our application process simple. We are expecting you to be a work in progress and would encourage you to submit speculatively if this is of interest to you.

To apply, please complete the form on our website.
