Leechwell Springs: Visualising Belief Through Analogue Photography
A free two-part photography workshop for people aged 16 – 25, exploring belief, ritual and analogue photography.
Leechwell Springs in Totnes has long been associated with healing, folklore and pilgrimage. Today, it continues to attract a new-age community who visit the springs for spiritual practice, ritual, and well-being.
This two-part workshop programme invites young people in Devon aged 16 - 25 to critically explore and examine these contemporary beliefs through photography and experimental darkroom image-making.
Rather than asking whether the springs possess healing properties, participants will investigate how photography might visualise something that is not easily seen: belief, energy, memory, ritual, and personal experience. Over two Saturdays, October 10th - October 17th, participants will experiment with analogue photography, darkroom techniques and alternative photographic processes. The project will culminate in a public exhibition at Contact Darkroom.
If you’re aged between 16–25, or know someone who would benefit from taking part, we have 8 spaces available.
If you’d like to join the workshops, drop us an email with a brief description of yourself and why you’d like to take part. We’d love to hear from you!
