Job
Engagement Officer
We are looking for someone with experience of developing and implementing community engagement projects within the cultural sector.
The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) exists to enhance the lives of people living, working and visiting Exeter. It is an Exeter City Council service, and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. It has world-class collections, some of which are Designated of national and international importance, and an ambitious programme of temporary exhibitions, events and engagement activities.
RAMM is looking for someone with energy, enthusiasm and flair to work on a 2+ year, Lottery-funded project which will help the museum better reflect local people’s histories and experiences in the museum’s catalogue and online content.
You will be working with several community organisations to develop responses to RAMM’s collections, planning and organising workshops and creative activities to generate rich content for inclusion in the museum’s collections database. This will involve working with a wide variety of partners and people from under-served groups.
You will be responsible for managing freelance engagement specialists and creative practitioners and will work with an external evaluator to gather data for evaluation. You will:
• be able to demonstrate experience of planning and delivering community engagement projects in a museum, arts or heritage setting.
• have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage a complex project and work to deadlines. This is a busy, part-time role and you will need to be comfortable working on your own initiative, able to balance various demands on your time.
• enjoy working in a team environment and be able to motivate staff, freelancers and volunteers.
• be passionate about co-creation, involving people and giving them a voice within the museum.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is well-organised and focused, able to develop relationships and work in partnership with community organisations.
