Emerging Artist Commission: Mangotsfield Folly
Artists/artist collectives sought to develop a funded site-specific project at Mangotsfield Station on the Bristol-Bath Railway Path
Mangotsfield Folly is a 12-month creative programme at a disused railway station on the Bristol-Bath Railway Path. Funded by Arts Council England and Emersons Green Town Council, it is led by curator Suzanne Heath and architect Rob Elkins, and organised in partnership with national charity Sustrans.
Alongside the named artist commissions, we are seeking proposals from emerging artists who would like to create temporary work for installation / performance at Mangotsfield. Work can be in any medium. We welcome experimental work, site specific engagement, local artists and projects involving public participation.
The project begain April 2022 and is focused around a temporary Folly structure on the former railway platform designed by Rob Elkins of Artel 31 architects. Six artists have been commissioned to create work for the space, including a mural by Bristol street artist Lucas Antics which was installed on 16th June. Other artists involved include writer and poet Holly Corfield Carr, printmaker The Letterpress Collective, Feral Practice (who is making a site specific audio drama responding to the site), photographer Charles Emerson and signwriter Straight and Narrow Signs.
