Drawing School and Outreach Lead

Messums Creative is looking to recruit an early to mid-career 2D artist and inspirational tutor, based in the South West, who is passionate about creative education and community engagement.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who will join our creative team at Messums Studios at a pivotal time when our umbrella organisation, Messums Creative, has recently secured charitable status.

Our goal is to further our current educational offer of 2D creative learning and to expand the outreach programme linked to the exhibitions at Messums West.

In 2021, Messums Studios was formed under the wider umbrella of Messums.Org, a progressive arts organisation which operates across venues in the UK and in partnership with cultural organisations abroad. Through its programme of events, exhibitions and symposia, Messums introduces and promotes the work of established and emerging artists as well as providing a platform for scientific and creative discussion, addressing current topics such as the universal political uncertainty, environmental emergency, and making as a problem-solving language.

Messums Studios is the community-facing, educational branch of Messums West. We operate a year-long, regular programme of creative learning for all ages and levels of experience. Out of term-time we deliver specialist workshops and focus on our outreach work. The role of Drawing School and Outreach Lead will allow us to deliver outreach and community engagement work all year around.

This new role of Drawing School and Outreach Lead will be a part of the creative team at Messums Studios, supported by Messums Studios co-ordinators and volunteers, and led by the Head of Messums Studios. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering the combined 2D art and community outreach educational programme.
