Call for artists
COURTYARD COMMISSION: Kingfisher Court - Filton Road, Bristol
Artists are invited to apply for a new commission within the main courtyard at a new development of student housing called Kingfisher Court
Kingfisher Court, Filton Road is in Stoke Gifford, South Gloucestershire on the outskirts of Bristol.
The commissioned artist will create an artwork that enhances the courtyard, incorporating a shade or pergola structure, which should serve both as a functional element and as an integral part of the artistic vision, connecting the space aesthetically and conceptually. The artwork should also establish a sense of flow between the courtyard and the adjacent sloped public space, using materials or forms that guide movement and encourage biodiversity.
Access to the outdoors is essential for physical and mental health, and this is particularly important at a student residence and in such an urban environment. This space will offer an area where students can interact with one another and connect with nature, while also providing green space for biodiversity enrichment.
Ginkgo Projects has worked with the project team to develop this approach to commissioning to meet the public art commitment for the development.
