Spike Island is a dynamic arts centre that supports, produces and presents contemporary art across an 80,000 square foot former industrial building near Bristol’s harbourside. We engage audiences in our work through a diverse programme of exhibitions and interdisciplinary events; and we directly support artists through major new commissions, subsidised studios and critically engaged artist development opportunities that widen access to our programme and facilities. We also offer bespoke exhibition services and are home to Emmeline café, workspaces for designers and creative businesses, and UWE Bristol’s Fine Arts programme.

THE ROLE
We are looking for an individual with the creativity, experience and commitment to join our team as Communications Manager and help us shape dynamic relationships between art, artists and audiences. You will lead on Spike Island’s communications and audience development strategies to support the effective realisation of our artistic programme and business plan. You will play a key role in enabling the organisation to grow and diversify its audiences, achieve its objectives, and maximise revenue.

The Communications Manager is responsible for all external communications, ensuring that Spike Island’s brand and values are clearly reflected, and building the organisation’s local, national and international profile. We seek someone who can effectively manage our digital channels, including our website, e-communications and social media, with a commitment to increasing accessibility, and with an enthusiasm for data and analytics to help us communicate our impact.

You will manage our PR and advertising strategies to increase recognition of, and support for, our programmes, services and the artists we work with. As Communications Manager you will ensure constructive and inspiring communications for our internal community of artists, creative businesses, students, staff and trustees. You will also oversee the timely delivery of signage and interpretation materials across our building and galleries.

For this role, you will be diligent, highly organised and able to work to deadlines, with an eye for detail, and excellent written and editorial skills. You will also have a proven ability to manage images, print production and digital media, and a successful track record in managing communications is essential, with a particular focus on digital. An interest in and knowledge of contemporary art is also desirable.

The position is offered full-time (35hrs per week).
Salary: £30,000-£32,000 per annum, depending on experience.

This is a re-advertised position. Previous applicants need not apply.
