Assistant Curator: Artist Development and Engagement, Spike Island
This role will support the Curator to develop and deliver Spike Island’s Artist Development and Engagement programmes.

Artist Development and Engagement
Spike Island is a dynamic arts centre that supports, produces and presents contemporary art across an 80,000 square foot former industrial building near Bristol’s harbourside. We engage audiences in our work through a diverse programme of exhibitions and interdisciplinary events; and we directly support artists through major new commissions, subsidised studios and critically engaged artist development opportunities that widen access to our programme and facilities.
We also offer bespoke exhibition services and are home to Emmeline café, workspaces for designers and creative businesses, and UWE Bristol’s Fine Arts programme.
THE ROLE
The Assistant Curator: Artist Development and Engagement will support the Curator to develop and deliver Spike Island’s Artist Development and Engagement programmes, including Spike Island Associates, Open Studios, Fellowships, the Syllabus, workshops and tours, and other initiatives. The post will underpin a renewed commitment to these areas of work, enabling Spike Island to better support artists from all backgrounds, including those based in the South West, to build sustainable careers in the arts and to engage diverse audiences.
We are looking for a person with the energy, experience and commitment to take on this role. You will be an integral part of Spike Island’s Programme team, working alongside the Director, Curator and Assistant Curator: Exhibitions and Public Programmes. Coordinating with staff across the organisation, you will contribute to a culture of good communication and strong support for artists, and help to ensure that the programme engages a growing number and range of audiences.
The position is offered full-time (35hrs per week) at £21,973 p.a
