Artist Opportunity
An exciting opportunity for a Devon based, global majority artist to work with Devon Development Education on their Telling Our Stories, Finding Our Roots multicultural heritage project. We’re looking for a dynamic artist to work with our project coordinator and project partners at Offwell School, Honiton Library and the Thelma Hulbert Gallery. The artist’s role is to creatively engage young people through workshop activities, inspired by our project stories, to create an art piece that will be included in the final project exhibition at the end of the year.

Benefits
This is a legacy project that works to engage the Honiton community with its multicultural heritage past and present. Having successfully secured funding over the last 12 years to run six projects like this one across Devon, interest in the project stories continues to grow through its website, social media, printed publicity and exhibitions.

The artist will ‘be a part of the story for a more inclusive future’ working closely with all our project partners. This opportunity is funded by the Creative East Devon Fund through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

What is expected of you?
The chosen artist will work with the project coordinator and the research volunteers to coordinate and deliver a one day workshop with 20 children in Honiton Library to create an exhibition piece that has been inspired by the stories of Honiton’s multicultural heritage.

Timeframe For delivery: The commission will start from the 19th August. The workshop will take place on a Thursday in September and you will have until November to create an exhibition piece that will be included in the final project exhibition at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery between November 22 - December 21st 2024.

The fee is £1400 and will cover your time, and all materials. Travel expenses will be covered in addition to this fee.
