Artist Commission - Southampton

Commissioning opportunity for an emerging / early career artist in Southampton.
Creative Youth Network, in partnership with MAST, Mayflower Studios, is looking for an enthusiastic, skilled and motivated emerging/early career artist, aged under 30, who is interested in working with a youth group from Southampton in order to co-create public artwork as social action.
You will lead workshops and sessions with a youth group in order to collaborate with the young people to create high quality, dynamic work for exhibition that authentically captures the passion and vision of the youth participants for positive social change and your response to it. Whilst you will lead on the creation of the work, you will also create a clear framework of opportunities for the youth participants to directly make and contribute to the final piece.
At the end of their time with you the young people will be energised, informed, and will have gained new skillsets, and expanded life chances through engaging with youth social action. They will also be immensely proud of the public artwork they have contributed to. This opportunity with support from MAST, Mayflower Studios and Creative Youth Network will support you to develop your professional networks.
You will be required to work for 4 days, equivalent of 32 hours on this project spread over four weeks from mid April to mid May, the artwork created will tour Weston Super-Mare, Southampton, and Bristol between May and June.
There is a £750 inclusive fee for this work in addition to a minimum of £200, materials budget.
Previous experience working with young people is not required, you will be supported by MAST, Mayflower studios to run activities and facilitate conversations. We welcome applications from artists from under-represented and marginalised groups including BAME, disabled, Neurodivergent, Unemployed or out of training, LGBTQ+, and low socio-economic backgrounds.

If you are successful, please be aware that you will be required to start collaborating with the youth group in the following weeks after the interview. All work will need to be made by Mid May.
