Calling Calling was an expanded vocal project that took place throughout 2023. It developed out of, and was led by, a group of Brunswick Club artists who came together through shared interests in working experimentally with the voice.

An extended group of vocal explorers from the wider Bristol creative community joined to learn new approaches and skills from each other, and from invited local, national and international artists, to explore a diverse range of vocal techniques, in order to work towards creating a new collaborative group performance.

The group took part in workshops with Alwynne Pritchard, and Hannah Silva, followed by a weekend residency at Arnolfini in September led by Yas Clarke, Shirley Pegna, and Jo Hellier to devise, and develop a group performance Calling Calling: Moving in and out of meaning.

Calling Calling was part of the West of England Visual Arts Alliance (WEVAA), a three year programme of activity that aims to transform Bristol and the West of England into a place where the visual arts can thrive, providing critical opportunities and support to enable artists, curators and young people to develop their careers and achieve their potential.
