Ryde Carnival Association
Ryde Carnival
Ryde Carnival is the oldest carnival in the UK, dating back to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.
Today, the Carnival is run by a small, passionate group of volunteers with a strong community ethos. RCA operates as a nonprofit organisation, relying solely on donations and fundraising efforts. The main purpose of our organisation is to coordinate, plan and facilitate three significant annual Carnival events: Children's Days, Main Procession, and Illuminated Procession. These events bring communities together, celebrate cultural diversity, and provide entertainment for residents and visitors alike.
Our primary objectives are:
Providing a Platform for Creativity: We aim to offer individuals, families, and various groups on the Isle of Wight a safe and engaging platform to showcase their creative talents.
Celebrating Community Diversity: Through our events, we strive to create an atmosphere where spectators from across the Isle of Wight, as well as visitors, can come together to enjoy a celebration of our island community's diversity and creatitivity. The Carnivals serve as a vibrant representation of the different cultures, traditions, and representations that contribute to the rich history of Ryde.
