Artist-led
Field Notes
Field Notes is a projects organisation based in Cornwall. We commission new works, curate exhibitions and produce festivals and public programmes.
At Field Notes, we see contemporary art as something useful and relevant in day to day life. It has the ability to start conversations, to create platforms for community and inspire progress.
By exploring the relationship between contemporary art, artists and communities through projects and events produced in collaboration with diverse organisations, we strive to develop new audiences; uncover and activate unusual venues; and create professional opportunities for artists at any stage of their practice.
Field Notes is focused on activity beyond the established centres of the art world, developing projects which bring cutting edge contemporary practice to communities with limited local access. By supporting the practice of artists who operate from or engage with these communities, we seek to challenge a rural art status quo by providing access, information and support that taps into an international debate whilst simultaneously bringing different communities together to share ideas and celebrate heritage on a local scale.
We have worked everywhere from disused chapels and four-storey shops, yacht clubs and mackerel fishing boats to local museums and white walled galleries. We produce giant art festivals, intimate commissions nestled within existing collections and multi-layered elusive journeys that explore ideas, towns, histories, woodlands.
