The Fish Factory Art Space CIC is offering  2-4 week residencies for artists and creatives in our new venue in Penryn, Cornwall. Opened in 2011 the Fish Factory has provided a forum for both Cornish emerging artists and international collaborators working in challenging and diverse mediums from sculpture and installation to painting, photography, printmaking, music and film.

As well as the residency spaces the current venue offers 15 artist studios, shared facilities including photographic darkroom, photo studio, print area, workshop space, a gallery space, vegan café and shop. The Fish Factory also hosts regular exhibitions from local, national and international artists as well as a range of live events, gigs and performances.


What do you get?

  • Use of the facilities including B&W darkroom, photo studio, 16mm steenbeck film editor and print area.

  • The potential to extend your residency into an exhibition or event. (This is dependent on programming and an additional fee may apply)

  • Access to our partner OTSAM’s acoustic recording studio (by arrangement)

  • 20% discount at our Vegan café


What is nearby?

  • Penryn is home to a broad artistic community with many studios and small galleries in the town and neighbouring Falmouth with events and workshops often taking place

  • Brickworks Ceramic Arts (Penryn)– Offers ceramics workshops and open access

  • John Howard Print Studios (Penryn)– Offers print workshops, open access and services such as screen preparation

  • PicklePeg Jewellery (Penryn) – Offers a range of Jewellery workshops

  • The Poly Pottery (Falmouth) – Offers a range of Ceramics workshops

  • Cornwall has some internationally recognised art galleries including Tate St.Ives, Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Newlyn and Exchange Galleries all accessible by public transport.

  • Access to the unique Cornish landscape, beaches, historical sites, the South West Coast Path and a UNESCO world heritage site



  • We aren’t currently in a position to offer accommodation as part of the residency but we can signpost you toward a range of suitable, affordable options for your stay.



  • The residency costs £250/£400 for 2/4 weeks.

  • Other lengths of residency may be available upon request.

  • You will be required to pay a 50% non-refundable deposit on acceptance of your place.

  • We are sometimes able to offer special rates for residencies to Cornish artists, or those living in Cornwall, please contact for further details.

  • We can help with artists funding applications by providing a letter of invitation if required.
