Opening Party | Making Us
6pm-8pm, Friday 19th July

Audiences to Contains Art will remember last year’s partnership between the arts organisation and Lumen Art Projects – bringing extraordinary digital experiences such as virtual reality and innovative technology to their modest shipping container. Now, Contains Art will work with Lumen Art Projects again, using venues across the town as locations for accessible digital artworks that bring Watchet to life on screen and in the imagination.

From 6pm-8pm on Friday 19th July there will be an opening party to celebrate the new artwork, with a large interactive digital experience at Contains Art, East Quay, Watchet, Somerset, TA23 0AQ, all are welcome to attend. There will be additional venues at Andrew's Fish and Chip Shop, Albert's 'Ardware, and more to be confirmed across the summer.

Contains Art and Lumen Art Projects are pleased continue their partnership with this newly commissioned work by Laura Dekker, a 2014 Lumen Prize Finalist. Lumen Art Projects has been supporting artists working with technology since 2012. They curate, produce and commission art and technology events around the world. Through their annual juried competition, exhibitions, seminars and commissions, they aim to share the future of art with everyone.

Making Us will consist of five interactive installations across Watchet. The five installations will each examine the role of technologies with respect to nature, human life and human relations, with particular significance for heritage and contemporary life in Watchet.

Based in London, Laura recently completed her MA in Computational Arts at Goldsmiths University of London and has exhibited in the V&A, Watermans Art Center and The Portico Library.
