This session aims to uncover some of Exeter’s latest exciting archaeological discoveries. Recent building developments in Exeter to include new houses, retail parks and roads are mirrored by some important developments in local archaeology. The current planning process ensures that where new building development effects underlying archaeology the developer will pay for the preservation of that archaeology for the public good. This can be by survey, excavation or conservation. The course will look at how this process works in general and then will focus on the museum’s role in the process. This is best illustrated with recent finds from around Exeter and so course participants will see archaeological discoveries that haven’t yet gone on display.
