Cecile Malaspina

As part of FOMO: Falmouth Art Publishing Fair 2017 I will give a brief talk about what kind of space Copy Press opens up for thinking and publishing in the current climate. Its ethos can perhaps be compared to that of the Ariadne Fabrik, a small underground initiative of artists and writers during the GDR time in Eastern Germany, where the objective was to create an opening, provide oxygen for language itself, outside the prescribed format of representation. The Ariadne Fabrik grew out of an acute need for artists and writers of all sorts to eschew the political censorship of non-sanctioned intellectual activity, but avoid also the typically Western commodification of alternative forms of writing. I will ask how Copy Press contributes to reviving this kind of space, and what need there is for it, outside the territory of academically sanctioned erudition.
