Hauser & Wirth Somerset is pleased to announce a new programme of Autumn exhibitions, including: Don McCullin’s ‘Conflict – People – Landscape’‘Qwaypurlake’ curated by Simon Morrissey and ‘Soil Culture: Young Shoots’ in association with the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW).

‘Conflict – People – Landscape’ presents a chronological showcase of Don McCullin’s most powerful and unforgettable images, including social documentary of London gang culture and impoverished urban Britain throughout the sixties and seventies, extensive war reportage and a collection of dramatic Somerset landscapes.

‘Qwaypurlake’ brings together landscape photography, painting, sculpture, ceramics and film from a broad selection of emerging and established artists, all of which have strong links to the South West of England. The exhibition constructs a fictional reimagining of the Somerset landscape, drawing inspiration from the history of the area and a number of speculative fiction writers.

‘Soil Culture: Young Shoots’ features the results of a number of artist residencies across the region, including our own residency with artist and film-maker Karen Guthrie in October 2014. The exhibition is part of a wider programme that will tour to host galleries and organisations, exploring the importance of soil and it’s many agricultural, ecological and holistic uses.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the opening of these new exhibitions on
Saturday 14 November.

The private view of ‘Soil Culture: Young Shoots’ will take place at The Maltings studio space at the end of Bruton High Street, 3 pm – 5 pm, ahead of the private views at the main gallery, 5 pm – 7 pm.

All events are open to the public and we look forward to welcoming familiar and new faces to the gallery.
