VASW are very pleased to announce artist Alexander Stevenson as the latest member of our Steering Group.

Alexander's recent activity includes commissions by Situations, Bristol Biennial, GoMA as part of Glasgow International Festival, Grand Union, Birmingham and headlining The Arches Live Festival in Glasgow.

His work uses processes normally associated with anthropologists, historians and researchers to create artworks, journeys and films. Huge fabric sculptures, live theatrical performances and narratives generated from remote locations are just some of the outcomes of these interests.

His work is informed by knowledge systems; how history is made and re-made through storytelling, objects and activities, looking at how cultural activities, shared beliefs and personal myths can be appropriated, amalgamated, or re-presented.

Alexander joins the Steering Group as one of 14 members from across the South West, representing the visual art sector and VASW's strategic framework towards Extraordinary Ambition.

Current Members include:

Helen Legg, Spike Island, Bristol (Chair)
Ben Borthwick, Plymouth Art Centre, Plymouth (Vice Chair)
Sarah Bowden, Hardwick Gallery, Cheltenham
Patrick Lowry, Back Lane West, Redruth
Megan Dunford, Artist, Bridport
Sarah Chapman, Peninsula Arts, Plymouth
Louise Coysh, University of Southampton, Southampton
Helen Davies, Arnolfini, Bristol
Judith Robinson, Plymouth Museum & Art Gallery, Plymouth
Sally Lai, Independent Curator and Co-Director of Feral Studio
