Light and Shade - Artists Call Out

Deadline Thursday 29 March 2018

Sightlines Projects are seeking artists to respond to the theme of Light and Shade for an exhibition at Christmas Steps Gallery, Bristol in June 2018.

Throughout history, artists have experimented with light and shade. From Caravaggio’s dramatic chiaroscuros to the reductive ‘purity’ of Ad Reinhardt’s black paintings, Robert Ryman’s attempts to work with ‘real light and space’ with all-white surfaces, or James Turrell’s immersive colour fields of pure light, artists have pushed these opposite polarities to their extremes and explored the power and the subtleties inherent within them.

We are searching for artists whose practice in some way interrogates the possibilities of light and shade for a varied and absorbing exhibition. We welcome submissions from artists working in all mediums.

About Sightlines Projects

Sightlines Projects is a Bristol based curatorial partnership formed by Roz Bonnet and Sarah Knight in 2014. We aim to offer a platform for emerging and established artists across all mediums to showcase their practice.
