Friday 28 September 2018 – Sunday 21 October 2018

Shezad Dawood’s (b. 1974, London) Leviathan is a site-specific installation produced and curated by independent curator Ben Borthwick, in partnership with the Atlantic Project. The exhibition incorporates a series of films, sculptures, textiles and neon works intertwining themes of migration, mental health and marine welfare, including an episode made in Plymouth. Developed in dialogue with a wide range of marine biologists, oceanographers, political scientists, neurologists and trauma specialists, Leviathan explores the notions of marine welfare, migration and mental health, and their possible interconnections. Dawood's multi-media works are inspired by his varied cultural heritage, having a Pakistani mother, an Indian father and an Irish stepmother. This is mirrored in his interest in multiple art forms, and the systems which society uses to judge their value.
