Black Swan Arts in Frome is hosting an evocative exhibition of paintings, etchings and drawings by the artist Oliver Bedeman.
Bedeman’s figurative paintings have a dream-like quality, tempered by his keen observations of urban life. Suspended between fiction and reality, he creates worlds in which saints take the Underground and fictitious characters from music and literature inhabit the city.
His observational drawings, made in and around London, are later worked up into paintings in the studio where imagined spaces are combined with figures, patterns and fields of colour. Each picture builds on pictorial and literary references, from poetry to the work of artists such as Klimt and Bonnard.
Working towards a South West where talented artists thrive, and a resilient and connected visual arts ecology that inspires more engaged and diverse audiences to value and advocate for its work.
