In the Air is a sound installation made specifically for the unique garden at Kilver Court. Various sound recordings are replayed underneath seven of the arches of the great Charlton Road train viaduct that runs dramatically through these beautiful gardens.

The recordings include speaking and singing voices and ambient, atmospheric sounds, as diverse as different weather conditions and engines, that relate to the cultural and industrial history of this remarkable site. In addition to such specific content, the sound work will draw on more universal associations of the garden as a paradise, as an oasis or haven, drawing on rich literary sources of poetry and myth.
