Fun Palace at Krowji is part of Fun Palaces 2017, a free, international celebration of community, bringing people together with arts, science, crafts and technology.

On Saturday 7th October visit the Fun Palace at Krowji, situated in the old grammar school buildings in Redruth - Cornwall’s industrial mining heartland - and immerse yourself in artistic investigations, interactive creative activities, craft workshops and technical demonstrations based on the science of creativity & the art of science. The activities and demonstrations will run throughout the day 11am-3pm, led by the community of artist and maker studio-holders at Krowji, Cornwall’s largest creative hub.

Twenty artists and makers will be sharing their skills, stories and creative secrets, including jeweller Nicola Bottono who’ll be showing visitors how to apply texture and colour to metal; Caro Beech and Sarah Cooling who will be teaching the techniques of printing and painting and screen-printer Paul Bawden who’ll be letting visitors have a go at pulling their own print!

Join mixed media artist Vicki Aimers in making books inspired by female astronomers of the past, help Lizzie Stevens bring plasticine people to life and watch glass artist Naomi Singer create winter decorations. Explore the DNA of life with Betty in Motion, creating a display of colour, magic and science or design a moth to sew with Marie Magor textile artist. Investigate ‘Why things Glow in the Dark?’ with Signs and Wonders, discover shadow, space and form with Vanessa Penrose or examine the cells in our bodies with Bettina Holland using Felt Making.

Visitors can turn their hand to other materials and try out marbling with artist Lesley Plumridge, woodblock printing with Adrian Holmes or scientific processes on organic matter with Toni Mason. Take a closer look at the world around you; learning techniques of still life with painter Colin Brown; drawing seasonal plants from the nature table with artist Melanie Johns Overlap and helping Illustrator Tangled Peacock create an enormous nature doodle!

Fun Palaces create events that bring together arts and sciences – but above all PEOPLE – to work together, create together, have FUN together, and in doing so, build our own communities, from the grassroots up.
